Adventures of a Novelty Fabric and Selvage Obsessed Quilter

Glad you stopped by!

I am a busy wife and the mom of 19 year old twins, a boy and a girl who are Sophomores at Syracuse University.

I have been quilting since the spring of 2008. I love novelty fabrics, colorful and unique.

Selvage quilting is addictive! Who knew the "junk" we cut off and threw out would be what I now save! I started a new tradition when I travel--visiting quilt stores! I particularly enjoy going to stores that have been named in the Quilt Sampler Featured Shop Lists-

They're ready to go!
Matthew and Marisa leave for Israel
tomorrow night for 6 weeks.
They are participating in a program
called Ramah Israel Seminar.
They have spent the past 7 summers at
Camp Ramah in the Berkshires in Wingdale, NY.
They are so lucky to be taking this trip
with their closest camp friends!!
Truly the trip of a lifetime!

They decided to take travel pillows,
and I made covers for them today.
I love how they came out!

Fabulous Batik!

I found this great Robert Kaufman batik
on the clearance rack at my local fabric store
over the weekend.
At $5 a yard, I took the rest of the bolt- 2 yards!
Love it!

Sorry I haven't been updating every day-
these 2 weeks are an insanely busy time at my house,
between the end of school,
and getting the kids ready for their
summer program in Israel!!

Selvage Pillows!!!

I have been thinking of making new
pillows for my daybed in the
room o' selvages for sometime now.
I wanted them to be mostly black and white,
with some reds, yellows and tans.
I won this awesome fabric on Ebay recently,
and knew it would be perfect for pillows!
I thought 5 selvage pillows would be too much,
so I made 3 out of the fabric,
and 2 out of selvages.

mid selvage transformation!
I love how they turned out,
and I think they give the daybed
a nice look!

Mentioned on the Selvage Blog today!!

What an unexpected suprise to be mentioned
on the Selvage blog today!

Karen writes:

.....Can you imagine if Chelo from Spain, Jill from New Jersey, and Jodie from Ballarat (Australia) were neighbors? No, I can't either! All together they've made upholstered chairs, window cornices, dresses, and lots more, all with selvages. I guess that's why God spread them out around the world.

What a wonderful selvage neighborhood that would be!!!!

Pat's Candy Bag!

Isn't this fantastic??

I am so fortunate that Pat sends me her selvages.
She is the person who told me about all the great
fabric shops I visited in Lancaster, PA.

Recently, I gave her instructions for making a tote similar to
my selvage tote that I made for my Lancaster trip.

She wrote:
Just thought you might like to see my version
of your selvage bag.
I quickly realized my selvages were not enough to
make a large tote bag.
Having plenty of candy fabric in my stash, this is what
I came up with.
Using your instructions, I randomly cut different widths of my
favorite candy fabric and stitched them to my foundation fabric.

Pat, your bag is absolutely amazing!!

My daughter and I saw the
matinee of Promises, Promises today.
Kristen Chenoweth and Sean Hayes were
absolutely outstanding and we loved it!
It was delightful, and a really adorable show.
If you get the chance to see it, GO!

Pillows

Recently, I decided to make some pillows
for the sectional couch in my family room.
The center one is made from fabric
leftover from my window cornices.
The secnd from the right is made from
leftover pieces randomly sewn together
from my strips n curves quilt, which is hung in that room.
The other 3 are made from square decorator fabric samples
I picked up a few years ago at the fabric store and
never got a round tuit!
Finally, I got one!!
