Adventures of a Novelty Fabric and Selvage Obsessed Quilter

Glad you stopped by!

I am a busy wife and the mom of 19 year old twins, a boy and a girl who are Sophomores at Syracuse University.

I have been quilting since the spring of 2008. I love novelty fabrics, colorful and unique.

Selvage quilting is addictive! Who knew the "junk" we cut off and threw out would be what I now save! I started a new tradition when I travel--visiting quilt stores! I particularly enjoy going to stores that have been named in the Quilt Sampler Featured Shop Lists-

Black and White Selvage Zinger

I didn't want to go away without posting a quick picture.
I love how Susan at Mouse Creek quilted it,
and I look forward to finishing it when I come back
from our cruise!

I wish everyone a wonderful holiday,
and a Happy New Year!

This time on Alderwood Quilts, the blog I talked about Monday. How fun is this!

In other news, my Black and White Selvage inger is HOME!!!!!
It looks awesome, and I hope to have some time

Black and White Selvage Zinger is on the longarm!!!!!!!!!!

and will hopefully be home tomorrow!
Not that I expect to have time to bind and finish it,
since we leave on Friday for a cruise.
But, just knowing it will be here waiting
for me when we return is awesome!

sorry it is blurry, I took it with my phone!

Alderwood Quilts

I was directed to a "new to me" blog today called
go take a look!
Now I am a follower of her blog!

She is having an awesome giveaway!
I just love those fat quarters and need to find out more details!
She has the templates for Strips N Curves quilts on special.
This is special to me because a Strips and Curve quilt was what
led me to quilting and was my first quilt!
I have shown it before, but here is my Strips and Curve quilt!

We are home enjoying a snow day from school today,
so I am loving reading quilting blogs!

Selvage cornices finished and hung up!!

For those who have not been following along,
I have been working on selvage cornices for our playroom.
We built the boxes last night, and covered them this afternoon.
After dinner, we hung them up!

The process:

naked cornice box:

wall before:

after:

The pillows will be leaving as well;
The art work around the room is my kids
work from elementary school.

I will be putting my black and white selvage zinger
on the bed. It should be back from being
quilted on the longarm in the next few days!

View with my messy desk alcove:

If you have never covered cornice boxes, it is an easy project.
If you can wrap a box, you can cover a cornice :)

Finally, a picture of the valances that
had done their time, so to speak!

Laura's bag!

My niece Laura recently completed her coursework
for a Masters degree in Education.
She hopes to find a job as an English teacher
at the High School level.
When I first saw this fabric,
I knew I had to make her something from it.
It is oversized, to accomodate her laptop!

I used the coordinating black fabric for the bottom,
as well as for an insert to make the bottom more sturdy

Kathie's prize for guessing what I am making!

I asked Kathie what her preferences are and
she loves reproduction fabrics from the 1800’s ....
Claire at mouse creek quilts helped me and chose these fabrics.
Kathie emailed today to say she received them and
"I love the fabrics and they are perfect for me!"
Happy to send them, and thanks again to everyone who guessed!
Stop by her blog and take a look!

Have you wordle'd yet?

My niece Laura told me
about this website when I showed her my
new fabric with words yesterday!
Go take a look.
So much fun!
http://www.wordle.net/

I put in my blog address, and it randomly generated this:

It gave me a link to show the one I made,
but that isn't working. So, I printed it out,
then scanned it into a jpeg.

What will you wordle about???

I have a correct guess!

Kathie said...
 valances? cornices...
curtain panels?
or maybe a strippy quilt  what fun!

I am making new cornices
for our playroom!!

Kathie will be receiving a prize.

Thanks to everyone who guessed!
It was so much fun, and a great bunch of new ideas!

Another clue!

Thanks to everyone who has visited, and
those who have left great guesses!
So many great ideas!
No one has guessed correctly yet,
so here are two photos of the pinned projects!

Care to guess again??

Selvages from Down Under!

Helen, who has been following my blog since the beginning, generously offered to send me some selvages. What an awesome suprise when the mail came today! I love them, and am touched by your generosity. It is so cool to see Australia printed where I am accustomed to it saying USA. I love the assortment of fabrics- so colorful! She also included a fat quarter of Australian themed fabric! Visit her blog-http://auntyhennys.blogspot.com/ and say hello!

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

Welcome!

to everyone who is visiting from Karen Griska's selvage blog!
What an honor to be featured!
Take a look around, and please leave comments for me.
If you like what you see, follow me!

DD's bag is finished!

I love how it came out, and found the
pattern and directions quite easy to follow.
What to start on next?
