Adventures of a Novelty Fabric and Selvage Obsessed Quilter

Glad you stopped by!

I am a busy wife and the mom of 19 year old twins, a boy and a girl who are Sophomores at Syracuse University.

I have been quilting since the spring of 2008. I love novelty fabrics, colorful and unique.

Selvage quilting is addictive! Who knew the "junk" we cut off and threw out would be what I now save! I started a new tradition when I travel--visiting quilt stores! I particularly enjoy going to stores that have been named in the Quilt Sampler Featured Shop Lists-

Welcome Blogger's Quilt Festival participants!

The first quilt I made was a Strips N Curves quilt by Louisa Smith.

This quilt was along time in the making. The book was published at the end of 2001, so I assume I got it sometime the next year. I signed up to take a class for it, but that never happened for whatever reason. It didn't stop me from gathering fabrics, however.

My husband has an Aunt who sews, so while she was visiting us from Las Vegas, I showed her the book She ordered the book, and made her quilt. We went to Las Vegas to visit, and saw her beautiful quilt. Still, nothing finished on my end. Life got in the way.

I then proceeded to lose my copy of the book. I ordered another copy. This was the summer of 2006.

Fast forward to 2008. I was determined to make this quilt! I really began getting fabrics together, and to my delight, a quilt store opened up 5 minutes from my house! With Claire's help, I was ready to start making my strata! The rest is history, and my first quilt top was completed in June of 2008. Off it went to the longarm, and returned in September 2008 to be bound and hung above our mantle in the family room! I love how it came out!

Beards and brains!

This was featured the onther day on the Selvage blog:

When I showed it to my sister in law Becky, who knits,
she showed me this-
I sent it along to Karen of the Selvage blog-
the creativity out there is
AMAZING!

Karen wrote:
When my buddy Jill Bunis in New Jersey saw the
Beard Hat post here a few days ago,
she said "I see your beard hat, and raise it..."
Is this hilarious, or what! :)
Does anybody else think it should be gray?
Or maybe I'm being too literal.

This hat was designed by Flint Knits.
The pattern appears in the Sept/Oct issue of Crochet Today magazine.
(This link goes to a pattern preview. The actual pattern appears only in the magazine.)

Cruisin'

Not a great photo,
but really shows how this works.
You keep adding fabric
until the block becomes the size it needs to be.

Boots!

This block holds special meaning.
The T shirt was purchased during
our family trip to Israel in 2005,
when our children were Bar/Bat Mitzvahed
and the fabric is significant because my
daughter and her friends all wore
awesome patterned rain boots
during their summers at Camp Ramah.
When I purchased this fabric, I knew I
would find a special use for it!!
Love, love, love this one,
and all the "rainboot" Ramah girls!

T shirt quilt continued

Sorry it is so blurry,
I kept forgetting to stop and take puctures
as the blocks progressed.

Next block/row!

I realized I already showed this block
so I am editing in the completed row.
The row was too narrow, so the solution was
to add more gray to the block on the left!
(Not shown)
love it!

tomorrow nights class,

Love this keyboard fabric!!
