Adventures of a Novelty Fabric and Selvage Obsessed Quilter

Glad you stopped by!

I am a busy wife and the mom of 19 year old twins, a boy and a girl who are Sophomores at Syracuse University.

I have been quilting since the spring of 2008. I love novelty fabrics, colorful and unique.

Selvage quilting is addictive! Who knew the "junk" we cut off and threw out would be what I now save! I started a new tradition when I travel--visiting quilt stores! I particularly enjoy going to stores that have been named in the Quilt Sampler Featured Shop Lists-

New notion!

In all my years of sewing, I have never gotten a fabric turning tool. Today, that all changed.

A quick trip to Michaels- mid project- and I now am

Check these out!

I found these great "containers" about a month ago at TJMaxx,
and now I have a collection around the house.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think
of selvages when you see them?
No matter, I love them, and am finding many uses
for them. I think I NEED more :)

Babyliss Pro BABNT3072 Nano Titanium Ceramic Ionic Iron, 1"

Thanks to my hairdresser Steve, for recommending this great product to me.
I have been using a CHI flatiron for a few years,
but knew it was time to replace it.
This one is so much lighter, and really is
far superior in the straightening! Love it!

I found it on Amazon for about $40 less than
I could have bought it locally!

Fabric Friday!

Michelle at Rosebud Quilting has started Fabric Friday!
I found it thru a link at http://parkcitygirl.blogspot.com/-
home of the blogger's quilt festival

On Fabric Friday, show any handmade item {quilts, tote bag, wallhanging, clothing, etc.},
or show us your fabric stash, or recent fabric purchase, or
show how you decorate with fabric or fabric items.

Here is my contribution!
Selvage placemat made with Insul-bright
so they can also be used as trivets/hot pads.
The garlic pattern is the background fabric

I still need to stitch down the back of the binding,
but I love how they came out!

Scroll down to yesterday in my blog to see
the other placemats I am working on!

Found- Quilt sampler magazines from years past on ebay!

That means 40 more stores to read about :)

Placemats sewn....

I used a product called Insul-bright,
so these will also function as trivet for hot dishes
It was very easy to use, and the mats are a nice weight.

and trimmed

anyone recognize any fabrics that may be in your stash?

A wonderful gift!

My BIL and SIL were recently on a cruise to New England and Canada. While in Bar Harbor, Maine they spotted this, and thought of me. I love it, and it looks great among my shoe collection :)

Fabric for the selvage quilt border...

Doesn't work AT ALL..... :(

At least I was able to audition it. Still love the fabric, and at least I will be able to use it for the bag I am making DD.

Just got home from visiting my selvage quilt top. Black border it will be!
