Adventures of a Novelty Fabric and Selvage Obsessed Quilter

Glad you stopped by!

I am a busy wife and the mom of 19 year old twins, a boy and a girl who are Sophomores at Syracuse University.

I have been quilting since the spring of 2008. I love novelty fabrics, colorful and unique.

Selvage quilting is addictive! Who knew the "junk" we cut off and threw out would be what I now save! I started a new tradition when I travel--visiting quilt stores! I particularly enjoy going to stores that have been named in the Quilt Sampler Featured Shop Lists-

Anyone care to venture a guess?

At what my latest project is?

It involves muslin, batting, pins, and selvages, of course!

Leave a guess in the comment section, and
I'll come up with a small prize if anyone guesses correctly!

  2. I don't know, but I sure have to try some of these selvage projects. Now to find some because I've never saved them. :(

  3. Maybe a bag?

My own selvage stash is growing and I'm also planning on a trip to the wonderful shop my friends and I found during our girls weekend, so more yardage is on my shopping list.... which means..... more selvages:-)
    Happy Sewing!

  4. I love the way you have the selvages sorted in the third image, Jill! I think Karen's guess is a good one, but I have to come up with something different, I guess. So, along a similar theme, I'll guess that you're making a wall hanging with a Chanukah menorah!

Tell me something, what's the secret to getting all these people to send you their selvages? I'm anxious to start on a decent sized selvage project, but my collection is still so pitiful. I could go through my stash and cut everything, but then that would be cheating, LOL! Plus a few other drawbacks.

  9. Goodness - this is hard! Perhaps a Christmas card holder to put on the wall to display your cards?
(Though when I saw them all laid out in a big slither I thought perhaps a scarf?!)

  19. I came over from Selvage Quilter to venture a guess. I'd guess one of those l-o-n-g scarves, but I think with muslin, batting, and the like it's more likely to be something else....a table runner?

  23. You've got a long piece of muslin, though maybe you aren't going to use all of it, but you might be starting a large project made of several blocks. I don't think the colors really suggest a Christmas or holiday themed project. Are you going to do a zinger-type quilt but without the "zinger" fabric? Does that even make any sense?! I've read through Karen's instructions on her website, and I'm saving selvages for a wall quilt in the future.

  25. A tree or mantle swag. You make these by tying 6" x 1/2" to 1" torn strips to a long narrow piece of muslin. I have one. It makes a great decorative (and warm) muffler for around your neck and looks pretty just around your neck and hanging down the front of your coat.
