Adventures of a Novelty Fabric and Selvage Obsessed Quilter

Glad you stopped by!

I am a busy wife and the mom of 19 year old twins, a boy and a girl who are Sophomores at Syracuse University.

I have been quilting since the spring of 2008. I love novelty fabrics, colorful and unique.

Selvage quilting is addictive! Who knew the "junk" we cut off and threw out would be what I now save! I started a new tradition when I travel--visiting quilt stores! I particularly enjoy going to stores that have been named in the Quilt Sampler Featured Shop Lists-

Selvage placemats are finished!

and I love how they came out!

I used Insul-bright so they also function as hot pads!

I'd like to send a huge thank you to the women who have shared their selvages with me!

  1. I love your placemats - I need to add them to my list of selvage projects to complete. You did a great job. I am currently working on selvage pin cushions.

  2. Nice job! I love how you show a nice wide strip of the printed fabric. I recognize the pickle fabric and some of the others. Good idea to include cupcakes, French fries, and plates.
Selvage placemats might be a good weight-loss diet strategy: at meal time I'd look at these selvages and get so inspired to sew that I'd dash to my sewing room rather than linger at the table!
Using selvages in quilting is so much fun. It seems that the fabric companies are making the selvages prettier in the new fabrics. Have fun.
