Adventures of a Novelty Fabric and Selvage Obsessed Quilter

Glad you stopped by!

I am a busy wife and the mom of 19 year old twins, a boy and a girl who are Sophomores at Syracuse University.

I have been quilting since the spring of 2008. I love novelty fabrics, colorful and unique.

Selvage quilting is addictive! Who knew the "junk" we cut off and threw out would be what I now save! I started a new tradition when I travel--visiting quilt stores! I particularly enjoy going to stores that have been named in the Quilt Sampler Featured Shop Lists-

I have reach a decision!

I will try spray basting, just not this time.
Instead, I have pinned it very well.
On the advice of Susan at Mouse Creek,
I bought a pair of gardening gloves with grippers
which she says will help me control the fabric better!
I have never machine quilted anything larger
than a wall hanging, so wish me luck!
I truly appreciate all the great advice
that was left for me!

  1. Spray basting is the ticket Jill, I do not ever want to pin again unless I have no other choice- it is just so much easier. I have spray basted many quilts - mostly queen sized ones..
I know a number of people who swear by the gloves- I hope that they work out well for you.
    Happy quilting .
    Warmest regards,
    Anna

  2. If your gloves prove to be too loose, you can get some that are made for machine quilters called: "Machingers." I like them. They're snug and give you a good grip. Not to say that you are losing your grip!
Have fun and tell us how it goes.

You can also try office fingers on your finger tips - I found that gloves got hot for me - Good Luck! let us know if they work for you.
