Have you used/ Do you use a spray basting product?
Do you like how it works?
Pros/Cons?
Any specific brand?
What do I need to know about it
that you didn't know the first time you used it?

I have used the June Tailor brand, and I personally do not get good results. I end up with a tuck/wrinkle or more on the back side. I don't know if it's just me, or what, because others in my quilt class don't have the same problem!

ReplyDeleteI've been using the Sullivan's in the pink can (Hancock's fabrics) for 10 years...If I get lower than 3 cans in my stash, I get edgy...
I would not of continued to quilt for that long if not for spray basting.
I have NO folds, wrinkles, or creases in the backing.
I tape down the backing on a table with masking tape, wrong side UP. Lay the batting down, fold it back half way, spray, fold it over, and smooth out. Repeat on other half. Now lay the top down repeat same way the batting was done...smooth out...let dry for 15 min. then you are done. I usually don't get to quilting it till the next day....Spray is like a miracle in a can! lol...have fun

Be sure to wear a mask so you don't inhale it.

ReplyDeleteI love it! Much quicker than basting, I like 505 and the stuff in the pink can. Some others no so much. I agree with Anon. you have to secure the backing with tape or clips to the table first and then work in sections. Having a helper is wonderful - mine is a husband who is retired. We can do a fairly large quilt in less than a half hour. I have had no problem with residue. I do use it with good ventilation.
ReplyDeleteWow this is a revelation - I never heard of spray basting before, it sounds VERY good to me, off to do more research!! I'm wondering how long it holds up (I'm not the fastest quilter) and figuring it may need to be washed out when the quilting's done? Thanks for sharing about this!
ReplyDeletei use the same stuff from walmart all the time...works great. if i run out of batting before i run out of quilt i just spray and add more batting and away i go. never had a problem with it. you can readjust it, too.

Like "Anonymous," I have always used Sullivan's in the pink can from Hancock's. That's what my mentors taught me was the best. I only use pins when working with fleece.
